Grande Prairie-based film company to debut short film

Nov 29, 2019 | 1:58 PM

A film completed during various youth film camps over the summer will be premiered Saturday afternoon in Grande Prairie.

The youth film camps that ran over the summer, called Identity Film Camps, were a collaboration between Grande Prairie based company C.I.A Solutions INC, TELUS STORYHIVE and Alberta Friendship Centres. The camps took place in Grande Prairie, Medicine Hat and Red Deer.

The short film, called A Summer Odyssey, follows two teenagers who solve clues throughout the province of Alberta in order to attend an underground concert.

The camps were no-charge to students, and participants rotated through different roles in the film making process, such as camera work, directing, lighting, wardrobe and makeup. The camps are open to indigenous and non-indigenous, LGBTQ+ and underrepresented minorities.

Ryan Dalgleish, Co-owner and Director of C.I.A Solutions INC says with the company and the camps, they hope to help youth in Alberta who have an interest in the film industry.

“We really want to show them that, especially now with today’s technology, you can go out and you can make your own art, you can make your own content without needing giant budgets or huge teams, you can just go out and do it, and we want to kind of, give them the skill sets so when they go out and do their own stuff, they kind of know what they’re doing.”

The debut will be held at the Pomeroy building in downtown Grande Prairie at 12 p.m. on Saturday, November 30. Entry is free.

Len Morisette, Owner and Director of C.I.A Solutions INC says this was the third year of the film camps.

“All that hard work that we did for the five days that we were here that they did, and then they watch that hard work on film, their eyes light up and the parents are so proud, and it just get’s them hungry for knowledge. And so, Identity Film Camp to us is really important, and it’s our way of giving back to the community and also, you know, giving the youth something to think about for future careers in the filming industry.”

The film will also be available on Telus On Demand in the upcoming weeks.
