Grande Prairie RCMP charge five more in impaired driving blitz

Dec 23, 2019 | 6:03 PM

Five more people have been charged by Grande Prairie RCMP with criminal impaired driving, as a result of a continued effort to reduce impaired driving this holiday season.

After charging four people the weekend prior in the Swan City with criminal impaired driving, RCMP, along with the Provincial Integrated Traffic Unit, Sheriffs, Fish and Wildlife Officers, Enforcement Services Officers and MADD Canada, nabbed five more individuals between December 19 and 22 at various check stops around the city.

In addition to those charged, RCMP also handed out:

  • One 24 hour driving suspension
  • 15 Provincial violation tickets
  • 23 Provincial sanctions under the Alberta Immediate Roadside Sanction Program

Over the four days, Mounties checked over 1,750 drivers with roadside breath tests.

RCMP say their goal during the holiday season, and all year round, is to encourage drivers to be thoughtful, courteous and to follow the rules of the road so that everyone can get home safely.
