12th Annual Big Brothers Big Sisters Ultimate Escape Fundraiser to go Friday

Jan 15, 2020 | 5:30 AM

The 12th Annual Big Brothers Big Sisters of Grande Prairie and Area Ultimate Escape fundraiser will go Friday, January 17, at the Pomeroy Hotel and Conference Centre.

The night is Mardi Gras-themed and is presented by the New Horizon CO-OP.

Corinne Patterson, Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sister’s of Grande Prairie and Area, says the money raised goes back into helping kids match with a mentor.

“We match kids in need of a positive role model in their lives, we match them up with a volunteer from the community. We take a lot of care to make sure that their matches are strong, and they have lots in common so that they’re good long-lasting matches.”

The night will also feature a dinner and a game of “Deal or No Deal”, where various prizes can be won, says Patterson.

“We have a lady’s case, (an) all lady’s case, with a diamond ring and some gorgeous shoes. We have a Traeger barbecue package, we have a trip to Toronto to see the Blue Jays’ and that is from Mr. Mikes. We have a mystery beach vacation, so basically, you just show up at the airport with your passport and your swim trunks and then you find out where you’re headed.”

There will also be a Grey Cup package and a Mardi Gras trip.

Patterson says they had raised an all-time high of $126,000 last year and are hoping to do as well this year too.

“I’d really like to sell out this year. It’s the year that we hope to hit a million dollars, so selling out at this event would put us over that huge milestone and I think the board and the committee would be very proud if that happened.”

Patterson says there are currently about 300 tickets sold with around 30 remaining.

Tickets are $90 per person or $650 for a table of eight, and the event begins at 6 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased online, or by calling 780-532-0620.
