Grande Prairie youth asked to imagine community in ten years for photography contest

Jan 18, 2020 | 7:00 AM

A non-profit organization based in Ontario is asking Grande Prairie youth to think about how their community will look in ten years.

The Tamarack Institute for Community Engagement is holding a photography contest based on the theme of ‘Communities in Transition’.

Michael Born, Youth Outreach Co-ordinator for the institute, says the institute is dedicated to bringing people together.

“So, Tamarack is, in short, an organization that works with communities to improve (the) life of the citizens in their communities, as well as reduce poverty, that’s kind of a main focus. So, engaging communities together.”

The institute’s central office is in Ontario, but has reached out to various communities in Canada, including Grande Prairie to diversify the entries.

The contest is open to anyone under the age of 30, and ten to twelve photos will be selected to be displayed as part of a gallery show. Photographers selected will receive $500.

They will also select 20 to 50 pictures for a slide show to be shown in the gallery on select nights. Photographers selected for the slide show receive $20.

Captions of no more than 30 words describing the photo and its meaning are required.
