Supervised consumption sites may need to close or relocate, says Kenney
Premier Jason Kenney says a look at a preliminary report on the effects supervised consumption sites have on communities and businesses shows an increase in property damage and crime.
Speaking to reporters in Calgary on Tuesday, Kenney says the results in the report reinforce the governments concerns.
“I think we see, pretty much everywhere, a marked increase in crime in the area of those sites,” said Kenney. “and a social disorder, and negative human consequences in many ways.”
A panel was appointed last summer by the UCP government to examine the socio-economic impacts of the sites.
