GROUNDHOG'S DAY

Mixed reports from North American groundhogs

Feb 2, 2020 | 10:51 AM

Canada’s most prominent groundhogs have had their say.

Nova Scotia’s Shubenacadie Sam emerged from his burrow northeast of Halifax Sunday morning, and his handlers say he saw his shadow.

But in Ontario and Quebec, Wiarton Willie and Fred la Marmotte were paraded before their respective audiences and evidently saw no shadow.

Alberta’s Balzac Billy also reportedly did not see it’s shadow, while south of the border, Punxsutawney Phil did not see it’s shadow as well.
