Northern Alberta man wins big in lottery

A Northern Alberta man is $331,763.60 richer, after winning a LOTTO 6/49 draw.

Bernard Maisonneuve, who lives in the hamlet of Guy, bought his ticket from the Freson Bros. market in High Prairie, but it wasn’t until a few weeks later he discovered he won the prize from Saturday, January 4.

While putting his Christmas decorations away on Sunday, February 2, he dropped his wallet, and noticed a couple lottery tickets inside. He checked the numbers, and found out he was a big winner.

“I had to check this ticket a few times to be sure of what I was seeing,” says Maisonneuve in a release from the Western Canada Lottery Corporation. “It was unbelievable!”

Maisonneuve doesn’t have any concrete plans on how to spend the money yet, but is considering taking a vacation, as well as helping his grandchildren with their education.

The winning numbers for the January 4 LOTTO 6/49 draw were 23, 24, 36, 42, 45 and 46; the bonus number was 21. Maisonneuve matched the five main numbers and the bonus on one line of his ticket to win the prize.
