Indigenous relations minister hopes spat with First Nation leader doesn’t hurt Teck Frontier project
EDMONTON – Alberta’s Indigenous relations minister says a last-minute war of words with a First Nations chief over a proposed oilsands mine is a case of bare-knuckle bargaining.
Rick Wilson says he hopes the spat with Athabasca Chipewyan Chief Allan Adam doesn’t hurt a federal decision on whether to green light the 20-billion-dollar Teck Frontier project in northern Alberta.
Ottawa has to decide by the end of the month whether to approve the mine, which would create thousands of jobs and boost the province’s resource industry.
Adam raised concerns this week that Alberta Premier Jason Kenney’s government hasn’t consulted enough on environmental impacts.
