Alberta may start financing energy projects

Alberta Premier Jason Kenney says it may be time for the province to start financing oil and gas projects as it did five decades ago.
Kenney made the comment as a growing number of investors — including Teck Resources — have been shying away from the oilsands, citing concerns about climate change.
He says the province may set up a publicly traded corporation or agency similar to the Alberta Energy Company, which helped kickstart the oilsands in the 1970s.
Kenney told an Edmonton news conference today that the public participation in the new corporation would be a good idea because Albertans are smart, patriotic and understand there’s great value in energy resources.
