New water tender stationed at the Sexsmith Fire Department

A new fire fighting unit has been delivered to the Sexsmith Fire Hall. Though it will be stationed in Sexsmith, it will be able to serve the County of Grande Prairie in emergencies.

“As demand grows across our region, the County continues to invest in high levels of service for our own Regional Fire Service as well as for the departments we partner with,” says County Reeve Leanne Beaupre in a release. “The County’s partnership with the Town of Sexsmith is uniquely suited to benefit both municipalities in support of safety and wellbeing across the area.”

The new water tender, which is designed to transport water to the scene of a fire, is an improved model, that pumps water faster than other units, and is able to hook up to hydrants, water pipe stand and dugouts to pull out water. This is the first water tender located at the Sexsmith Fire Department.

“The Town of Sexsmith feels very fortunate to have the County of Grande Prairie locate a new water tender at the Sexsmith Fire Hall,” says Sexsmith Mayor Kate Potter. “The fire service in Sexsmith and area is greatly enhanced by a thriving partnership between the Town and the County, making it possible to provide a quality service to both Town and County residents.”

Though it will be stationed at the Sexsmith Fire Department, the new water tender will be used to combat fires in other municipalities. An agreement between the Sexsmith Fire Department and the County of Grande Prairie Regional Fire Service provides funding and equipment to the Department, in exchange for help in emergencies outside their municipal boundaries.

This addition brings the total number of water tenders the Regional Fire Service and it’s partners have in service up to eight.
