Provincial funding to boost surgical capacity at Grande Prairie Regional Hospital
The Grande Prairie Regional Hospital will have one more operating room than originally planned when it opens in 2021.
The province announced Wednesday it was putting $100-million into renovating and expanding surgical facilities across Alberta to reduce wait times for surgeries.
Alberta Health tells EverythingGP that work will include fitting out an extra operating room at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital. That would include construction and putting in new equipment.
Alberta Health Spokesman Tom McMillan adds there were two shells for future operating rooms included in the new hospital’s original plans, but those rooms were not to be fully useable right away. He adds this is something that is commonly done when new hospitals are built.
