Valuable haul of contraband seized at Drumheller Institution

Mar 7, 2020 | 10:28 AM

Thanks to the vigilance of staff, a significant amount of contraband was seized at Drumheller Institution this week.

Officials with the Correctional Service of Canada say the seizure took place at around 1 p.m. on March 2.

The package contained crystal meth, THC concentrate, and two cell phones. The total estimated value is $139,000.

“The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) uses a number of tools to prevent drugs from entering its institutions. These tools include ion scanners and drug-detector dogs to search buildings, personal property, inmates and visitors,” a release explains.

“CSC is heightening measures to prevent contraband from entering its institutions in order to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone. CSC also works in partnership with the police to take action against those who attempt to introduce contraband into correctional institutions.”

Police have been notified and the institution is investigating.
