Local catering company wins lease for Five Mile Hall after being the sole bidder

The County of Grande Prairie has accepted the only applicant as the successful bidder to lease out Five Mile Hall.

Food Solutions Corporation (FSC) has won the bid to a five-year lease for the hall. The agreement will see FSC pay the County an annual operating lease of $55,000, and a base lease of $1,250 per month. Those figures may be renegotiated after the first year.

The agreement will also see FSC make a one-time $20,000 payment to the County, to buy unattached goods that range from microwaves, to tables and chairs, to cutlery, to dishes and plates.

Reeve Leanne Beaupre says FSC was the sole bidder for the lease, which she found surprising.

“We had had quite a bit of interest when we first took over control of Five Mile Hall. And then it went out for Request For Proposals, and there was only one application, and they became the successful bidder on the opportunity to lease Five Mile Hall.”

FSC will mainly be running a catering business out of Five Mile Hall, but will also be running events, which is how the space was last used when owned by the Agricultural Society.

Beaupre says she’s excited for another event space to be operating in the County.

“There’s a need for that type of facility, and when it was in the transition stage we were receiving quite a few phone calls from interested individuals looking to be able to rent that facility, because they were looking for something of that size and location. So having it available again to the general public will be perfect, especially for the upcoming wedding season, and family reunions, and that type of thing.”

Under the lease agreement, FSC will be in charge of any regular maintenance and repairs to the building. However, Beaupre says as the owner, the County will still be responsible for building upkeep and capital improvements.

“If, for example, in the future it requires a new roof, the County of Grande Prairie would be obligated to doing the new roof on it. Or if the water system was impacted in any way, and they needed a new well, that would be the responsibility of the owner.”

Food Solutions Corporation hasn’t officially accepted the agreement yet, but Beaupre hopes the lease is signed and the hall turned over to the company soon.
