Alberta adds 40 new COVID-19 cases as province reports third fatality Sunday

The North zone reported two new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, as the province added its lowest count of cases since last Sunday, with 40 new cases being recorded by the province.

However, the province reports a third Albertan has died from COVID-19 related complications. The province has confirmed the deceased was a woman in her 80’s from the Calgary zone.

With the new confirmed cases, there are now 661 cases of COVID-19 in Alberta. Of those, the province believes up to 60 of those cases could be community transmission.

The province also reports that 73 individuals out of those 661 are confirmed to have recovered from COVID-19.

As of March 29, there are 45 confirmed cases in the North Zone. No cases were added in the Peace region Sunday, however the geographical data on the government’s website says there are now six cases in the Falher area, while the High Prairie area now has five. Those totals were opposite each other on Saturday’s update.

A breakdown of the Peace region’s confirmed cases as of March 29 can be found below:

  • City of Grande Prairie: Two cases
  • County of Grande Prairie: One case
  • Valleyview: One case
  • Falher: Six cases
  • High Prairie: Five cases
  • Peace River: Eight cases
  • Slave Lake: Two cases
  • High Level: One case

Across the province, 41 individuals have been hospitalized with COVID-19, while 14 have been sent to intensive care.
