Five new confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been added to the North Zone’s total on Tuesday, bringing the total to 50 to close out the month of March.

Two of those cases were added in the Peace Region. Those come from the Falher and High Prairie areas. A breakdown of the Peace Region’s total number of cases as of March 31 can be found below:

  • City of Grande Prairie: Two cases
  • County of Grande Prairie: One case
  • Valleyview: One case
  • Falher: Seven cases
  • High Prairie: Six cases
  • Peace River: Eight cases
  • Slave Lake: Two cases
  • High Level: One case

Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw also announced one additional fatality, bringing the province’s total to nine for the month. The deceased was a woman in her 80’s from the McKenzie Towne Long Term Care facility in Calgary, where an outbreak has been declared. That is the third individual to pass away from COVID-19 in that facility.

The province saw an increase of 64 cases Tuesday. Alberta now has 754 confirmed cases of COVID-19 as of March 31, 25 days since the first case was discovered in the province on March 6. Dr. Hinshaw says up to 75 of those cases are believed to be community transmission.

Of those 754 cases, 120 people have been confirmed to have recovered from the virus.
