No active cases of COVID-19 reported in City of Grande Prairie as of April 6

The province of Alberta has changed how they are reporting cases of COVID-19 in the province.

As the province announced 98 newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 Monday, its aggregate data website was updated to now show active and recovered cases by municipality, as well as fatalities. The reporting areas have also been changed to more formal municipal boundaries, rather than areas related to certain municipalities (i.e. M.D. of Smoky River, rather than the Falher area).

With those changes, the first two confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the City of Grande Prairie are shown to have now recovered, while reporting that there are zero active cases as of April 6. The two cases were announced back on March 20.

There were 12 newly confirmed cases reported in the North Zone on Monday, bringing Northern Alberta’s total number of confirmed cases to 89. A number of those newly reported cases were added in Peace Region municipalities, including a new case in the County of Grande Prairie. An updated list of where confirmed cases are in the Peace can be found below:

  • City of Grande Prairie: Two cases (Both recovered)
  • County of Grande Prairie: Two cases (Both active)
  • M.D. of Greenview: Two cases (One active, one recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 22 cases (19 active, one recovered, two deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 15 cases (10 active, four recovered, one death)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: Four cases (All recovered)
  • Northern Sunrise County: Four cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: Five cases (Three active, two recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: One case (Active)
  • Mackenzie County: One case (Active)

The province now has 1,348 confirmed cases on the official beginning of the province’s second month of battling the novel coronavirus. The province reported its first case of COVID-19 in the Calgary Zone on March 6.

One more individual has died from complications related to COVID-19 Monday, a woman in her 80’s from the Calgary Zone at the McKenzie Towne Continuing Care Facility. where an outbreak has been declared. Twenty-four individuals have now died in the province from the disease. Four of those fatalities have happened in the North Zone.

361 people have now recovered from COVID-19 across Alberta, an increase of 82 from Sunday.
