North Zone adds two newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 Thursday

Two newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the North Zone as of April 9, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 97.

The two new cases are confirmed to be in the M.D. of Smoky River area, which now has 29 confirmed cases, 23 of which are active.

An updated total of confirmed cases in the Peace Region can be found below:

  • City of Grande Prairie: Two cases (Both recovered)
  • County of Grande Prairie: Three cases (Two active, one recovered)
  • M.D. of Greenview: Two cases (One active, one recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 29 cases (23 active, four recovered, two deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 15 cases (Nine active, five recovered, one death)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: Four cases (All recovered)
  • Northern Sunrise County: Three cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: Six cases (One active, five recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: One case (Active)
  • Mackenzie County: One case (Recovered)

Twenty-eight new cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the province of Alberta, bringing the total of confirmed cases to 1,451, with 592 of the total now recovered.

Three more deaths have also been reported, including two in the Calgary zone and one in the Edmonton zone. The total number of deaths in the province is now at 32.

Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, says they now believe 192 of the total confirmed cases in Alberta are believed to be linked to community transmission.

Dr. Hinshaw says over the last 24 hours, 1,333 tests were completed.
