County of Grande Prairie releases Five-year Strategic Plan

Apr 13, 2020 | 5:30 AM

Grande Prairie County Council has approved its Five-year Strategic Plan.

The plan will cover all of County Council’s planning, initiatives, and operations until 2025.

Reeve of the County, Leanne Beaupre, says seven themes were identified as the most important for the county, and at the top of the list was effective transportation.

“I would say that it probably resonates the most with councillors and our ratepayers, which had a large impact on forming this document.”

“Not only did we ask for input from our staff, we asked for input as well from the public.”

Other themes listed are fiscal sustainability, economic development, technology infrastructure, safe communities, density and service standards and governance and leadership.

Beaupre says this is a living document that will be continuously monitored and worked on over the next five years.

“I believe its quarterly that they come back to Council and show where those items, that were assigned to a specific council member or department, where they’re at for a progress report or whether they’re finished, and if they’re finished, there are other items that have been identified that will move up on that agenda.”

Reeve Beaupre says they have done a strategic plan every five years since she has been with County Council, and that this document is different due to the amount of consultation done with staff and the public.

The plan also included a new vision for the County, being ‘The County of Grande Prairie No. 1. First in building sustainable, prosperous and safe communities.’
