Local hair salons finding alternative ways to continue providing services

A local hair salon is finding new ways to keep their clients engaged and offer their services during closures due to COVID-19.

Danielle Cherewyk, owner of The Headroom Hair Salon, says since they have had to close, they have created DIY hair kits and other online services for their clients.

“Lots of our clients had hair appointments that they had to cancel, and they were wanting to still feel really great.”

“We’ve come up with these hair kits which allows them to do just a touch up in between, or to tone their blonde or brown (hair) just to keep it fresh looking while we’re in this state.”

She says kits and other online services like tutorials can provide a sense of comfort and normalcy for those who are staying home.

“Sometimes, if they can’t get their hair done, they’re feeling less like themselves.”

“Also they’re looking in the mirror, and if they’re not feeling good, like if they’re not looking good or looking how they want to look, then they’re not feeling good, and so it’s a big mental health thing as well, not just about the vain of it, it’s really about the whole other side.”

Cherewyk says that shopping online is just one of the ways to support local businesses during this pandemic.

“The other way that they can help is even just engaging with us on social media which raises our awareness, keeps us connected with the community, rating us or rating other businesses on Google or Yelp, it makes a really big impact for businesses so we can have a strong comeback.”
