Apr 19, 2020 | 4:07 PM

UPDATE (5:00 p.m. April 19): The reported fatality in the North Zone Sunday was a male in his 90’s from the Manoir du Lac continuing care home in McLennan. He is the sixth resident at that facility to pass away from COVID-19.

A man in his 90’s has become the sixth resident at the Manoir du Lac continuing care centre in McLennan to die from COVID-19 related complications, while becoming the eighth person in Northern Alberta to pass away from the disease.

The fatality was one of four newly reported deaths in Alberta Sunday. Fifty-five Albertans have now died from COVID-19.

Alberta Health Services announced Friday that they have taken over day-to-day operations at Manoir du Lac to help control the outbreak of COVID-19 at the facility. Twenty-six residents had been confirmed to have contracted the novel coronavirus as of April 17, while 11 staff members had tested positive.

No new cases were announced in Northern Alberta Sunday as the province as a whole added 241 new cases to bring the total to 2,803 confirmed cases of COVID-19. The North Zone has 137 confirmed cases as of Sunday.

The City of Grande Prairie also saw a second straight day of a reported case being removed from the City’s total, as the province’s aggregate data reporting system now says there are no active cases in Grande Prairie as of April 19.

On Friday it was reported two new cases were active within the City, but that was reduced to one on Saturday as an Alberta Health spokesperson confirmed to EverythingGP that the removed case was a result of a test on a presumptive case coming back negative.
