GPREP expands operations in response to regional flooding

Apr 21, 2020 | 5:08 PM

The Grande Prairie Regional Emergency Partnership is expanding it’s operations to help with flood mitigation for municipalities around the Peace Region.

With warm weather over the last week, snow has begun to melt quickly which has resulted in flooding in some municipalities and has forced the closure of several local roads.

GPREP has responded and is assisting in the affected areas to assess the flooding and ensure safety for the public.

Residents who live in areas that could potentially flood are encouraged to do the following to prevent flood damage:

  • Put weather protection sealant around basement windows and the base of ground-level doors.
  • Keep all floor drains clear of obstructions.
  • Store important documents and irreplaceable personal objects (such as photographs) where they will not get damaged.
  • Ensure your sump pump is operational.
  • Unplug all electrical appliances and remove them from the flood path.

The Alberta Emergency Alert website will provide updates to any ongoing flooding situation in the areas.
