Dream Home Lottery raises over $250,000 for regional food banks

Apr 23, 2020 | 10:50 AM

The Dream Home Lottery is officially wrapping up ticket sales after raising over a quarter of a million dollars for regional food banks.

This week, the Rotary Club of Grande Prairie will issue their final round of COVID-19 Rapid Relief Fund cheques to regional food banks to a total of $102,140.

The COVID-19 Rapid Relief Fund used half of the money made from all of April’s sales of Dream Home Lottery tickets as a response to the pandemic.

The cheques sent out today to area food banks include:

  • $80,500 to Grande Prairie
  • $5,160 to Sexsmith
  • $4,120 to both Beaverlodge and Fairview
  • $3,090 to both Hythe and Wembley
  • $2,060 to Peace River

This money was raised through ticket sales from April 20 – 22. Previously, cheques totaling $31,275 were sent on April 6, $47,575 in cheques were sent out on April 13, and $90,800 was sent out on April 20. A total of $271,790 has been distributed to regional food banks from the Dream Home Lottery ticket sales.

The final draws for the Dream Home will take place on Friday, April 24, at 7:00 p.m. The draws are typically done at the Dream Home and are open to the public, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the home will be closed to the community.

“This is a first. We’ve loved having people crowd the garage to watch the draws,” said Raffle Manager Kevin Hilgers in a release. “However, it just cannot be done this year. Only witnesses, management, executive and gaming authorities (AGLC) will be permitted to attend, using social distancing practices”.

The draws will be livestreamed on Facebook.
