Despite excitement, future drive-in movie nights on hold

Those excited to take in a movie night at Bullets and Broadheads on Saturday night are going to have to cancel those plans.

The event being put on by Echo AVU and the Revolution Auto Group, as well as Bullets and Broadheads, is still showing its Friday night selection “Jumanji, Welcome to the Jungle”, but organizers say that all other planned movie nights will have to wait until they can arrange proper protocols that follow public health mandates with Alberta Health Services and other authorities amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lionel Robins, The CEO of Revolution Auto Group, took to Facebook to make the announcement prior to Friday’s highly anticipated showing.

“If it’s a matter of a few delays, to potentially be able to do this more often for more people, it’s totally worth it,” said Robins. “Apologies to anyone that was looking forward to date night Saturday night, it will have to wait until a future Saturday.”

The organizers note that having proper public washrooms that follow public health mandates is the biggest issue for AHS. Washrooms were not made available for Friday’s showing.

Even prior to the 8:00 “doors opening” for Friday’s showing, hundreds of cars were lined up to pack the parking lot of Bullets and Broadheads, looking for a “social” outing amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We were expecting about 85 cars to show up and we’ve got at least 95 maybe close to 100 in our parking lot and there’s cars (across the street) at the mall,” explained Robin Coward the owner of Bullets & Broadheads. “It’s great to see everybody get out and enjoy sometime outside of their house and respect the COVID-19 restrictions.”

Coward says future events will be announced at a later date as organizers and AHS work for a proper solution.

“We would like to be able to get AHS permission to do this again, I think it’s a great event for the residence of Grande Prairie. We’d like to do it at a little bit of a bigger venue if they’re willing to cooperate with us on that.”
