Rapid Relief Fund to continue momentum with matching donation program

Though the Dream Home Lottery has come to an end for 2020, the Rotary Club of Grande Prairie is going to continue on with its Rapid Relief Fund to help support area food banks through the COVID-19 pandemic.

The fund was started at the beginning of April, with 50 per cent of all proceeds from ticket sales for this year’s Dream Home from April 1 until April 22 going to Northwestern Alberta food banks. $271,790 was raised during that stretch to help support food banks in Grande Prairie, Sexsmith, Beaverlodge, Fairview, Hythe, Wembley and Peace River.

With that, the club has decided to keep the momentum of the fundraiser going.

“The community is asking for it. They have been reaching out to us with “How can we help?,” said Chair of the Rapid Relief Fund Melissa Coulombe. “We’ve had individuals and businesses both want to be part of this. So, yes, we will continue with the fund for as long as there is a need.”

The fundraiser will see the Rotary Club of Grande Prairie match the first $25,000 in donations, with proceeds going continuing to go to area food banks.

“It has been so gratifying to see people buying Dream Home tickets this past month in support of our efforts including the Rapid Relief Fund. We’re excited to continue the momentum.”
