ABP asking ranchers to help push politicians to help the beef industry, CCA offering mental health help

Apr 29, 2020 | 2:14 PM

Alberta Beef Producers is encouraging ranchers to contact federal and provincial politicians about help for the industry.

ABP has come up with a form letter that ranchers can fill out and send to their MPs and MLAs.

The letter calls this a critical time for the Alberta beef industry, adding that the processing sector is especially vulnerable and that recent shutdowns will impact the financial viability of the entire industry.

It goes on to ask for a national set aside program plus alterations to several Business Risk Management Programs, things ABP and the Canadian Cattlemen’s Association have been asking to see come in for a while now.

A link to the form letter can be found under the producer section of the Alberta Beef Producers website.

The CCA also has a section under the Resources tab of its website called Coping with COVID-19.

This is for producers who may be struggling with mental health and coping with the pandemic. ABP says in the newest edition of its Grass Routes newsletter that it is encouraging farmers and ranchers to make the mental well-being of themselves, their families, and their employees a priority.
