Alberta adds 97 COVID-19 cases Saturday, three in North Zone

The province is reporting 97 new cases of COVID-19 Saturday, with three of those cases added in the North Zone.

The total increase is based on 3,337 tests being completed over the past 24 hours at the provincial lab, with 311 of those being completed for Northern Alberta residents. 148,757 people have now been tested in Alberta, 11,560 of which have come from the North Zone.

The cases added in the North Zone Saturday were identified in the M.D. of Smoky River area (x2) and in the Big Lakes County area.

218 cases of COVID-19 have now been identified in the North Zone as of Saturday, while the province has seen a total of 5,670.

Updated case totals for Peace Region municipalities as of May 2 can be found below:

  • City of Grande Prairie: Three cases (One active, two recovered)
  • County of Grande Prairie: Five cases (Two active, three recovered)
  • M.D. of Greenview: Two cases (One active, one recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 67 cases (23 active, 34 recovered, ten deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 37 cases (15 active, 19 recovered, three deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: Five cases (One active, four recovered)
  • Northern Sunrise County: Three cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: Seven cases (All recovered)
  • Clear Hills County: One case (Fatal)
  • County of Northern Lights: One case (Recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 23 cases (12 active, 11 recovered)

Two more Albertans have died over the last 24 hours due to COVID-19, raising the provincial death toll to 94 as of May 2. Neither of Saturday’s reported deaths occurred in the North Zone, keeping the total number of fatalities in the North at 15.

Saturday’s COVID-19 report also shows 175 more Albertans have recovered from COVID-19, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,534 (44.7% of all reported cases).

As of May 2, 88 people are in hospital with COVID-19, 19 of those individuals have been admitted to intensive care units (ICU).
