GPREP offering help to local businesses with economic relaunch strategy

May 7, 2020 | 11:23 AM

The Grande Prairie Regional Emergency Partnership (GPREP) has begun preparing for the potential relaunch of local businesses through their Business Ambassador Team.

They have also renewed the state of local emergency in all six partner municipalities for another week.

On April 30, the province announced its planned economic relaunch strategy that is to go in three phases, with some businesses able to reopen as early as May 14 as part of stage one of that strategy.

Businesses such as retail, some personal services like hair salons and barber shops, museums and galleries and restaurants and bars will be allowed to reopen in the first stage of the relaunch. These businesses will still be required to have infection prevention and health and safety protocols in place.

“Last week, we launched the Business Ambassador Team to support local businesses through the re-opening of our economy, starting with essential services,” said Dan Lemieux, Director of Emergency Management, in a media release. “The team has already connected with 91 local businesses and is working to contact each business in the GPREP service area to help them through the transition of re-opening their doors and understanding what additional measures they will need to take.”

The province also released their Workplace Guidance for Business Owners on May 3, which includes information and criteria for which businesses will have to abide by and put in place before re-opening.

Those interested in information on re-opening can speak to a GPREP Business Ambassador through email, at business@gprepeoc.com.
