Province adds 59 new cases of COVID-19 Saturday

The province has confirmed 59 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing the total in Alberta to 6,157. The North Zone remains at 226 confirmed cases.

Alberta has also confirmed 184 more recovered cases, meaning 4,204 people have recovered in the province.

One additional death caused by the novel coronavirus has been confirmed in the province as of May 9, bringing the total number of deaths in Alberta to 116.

An updated total for Peace Region as of Saturday are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: Four cases (One active, three recovered)
  • County of Grande Prairie: Five cases (One active, four recovered)
  • M.D. of Greenview: Two cases (One active, one recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 66 cases (Five active, 52 recovered, ten deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 37 cases (Six active, 28 recovered, three deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: Five cases (All recovered)
  • Northern Sunrise County: Three cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: Seven cases (All recovered)
  • Clear Hills County: One case (Fatal)
  • County of Northern Lights: One case (Recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 30 cases (Nine active, 21 recovered)

Saturday’s case numbers are based off of 3,088 tests being processed at the provincial lab over the last 24 hours. 169,415 people have now been tested for COVID-19 in the province as of May 9, and 13,119 tests have been completed in the North Zone.

The number of Albertan’s in hospital or intensive care has also decreased, leaving 74 in hospital and 15 in ICU. One more person in northern Alberta has left the hospital over the last 24 hours, meaning six people in the North Zone are in hospital at this time.
