Air Canada to add extra flights to Calgary in June, flights to Edmonton expected to return in July

May 12, 2020 | 3:59 PM

The Grande Prairie Airport’s flight schedule is slowly returning to normal as the province begins to gradually reopen.

The airport announced Tuesday that Air Canada will be increasing its passenger flights to Calgary from one flight three days a week to one flight seven days a week.

The change will also see the flight move to a new time slot. The plane, which Air Canada has upgraded from a Dash 8-100 to a Q400, will arrive from Calgary at 12:12 p.m. and depart Grande Prairie at 12:50 p.m.

The airport also says Air Canada has indicated that they have plans to restart service to Edmonton starting in early July.

WestJet’s June schedule will remain the same, as it will continue to operate four flights per week to Calgary on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday through June.

In a statement, the airport says that the number of people traveling from Grande Prairie to Calgary has increased.

The Grande Prairie Airport also announced that effective May 13, only passengers and staff will be allowed inside the Air Terminal Building. This will not affect curbside drop off or curbside parking.

The Air Terminal Building will remain accessible to passengers from 2:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. until May 31 and will operate from 10:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on June 1 to accommodate the expansion of the new schedule.

“We are pleased to see signs of gradual increases and together with our service partners we are monitoring operations closely to continue safe travel and workplace environments,” said the CEO of the Grande Prairie Airport Brian Grant, in a release. “We are aware of the delicate balance between control of the pandemic and the need for essential travel.”
