Drive-in movie nights returning to Bullets and Broadheads this weekend

UPDATE: The link to purchase tickets can be found here.

As the Province of Alberta cautiously begins to re-open, Bullets and Broadheads popular movie night is making a return this weekend for showings on Friday and Saturday (May 22 and 23).

It will be the sequel to the showing on April 25, when Bullets and Broadheads, along with Echo AVU and the Revolution Auto Group, came together to host a movie night for members of the community as a way for people to get out of their house and enjoy a family outing to help take minds off of COVID-19.

The group did have permission from Alberta Health Services to launch the movie night for that one night, and guests had to follow some strict protocols such as not being allowed to leave their vehicle, and there were no portable toilets for use as bathrooms would have to be sanitized after every single use.

Future movie nights were put on hold though, until proper public health measures could be implemented to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Now that those issues have been addressed, Owner of Bullets and Broadheads Robin Coward says things are going to be a little bit different this time around.

“We’re actually going to have some tickets that we’re going to sell. We are doing it Friday and Saturday night. Saturday night is going to be “retro night” and at this point it looks like we’re going to be showing E.T., so that will be fun for some parents to watch the movie with their kids that they watched when they were kids.”

The organizers note that having proper public washrooms that follow public health mandates is the biggest issue for AHS. Washrooms were not made available for the April 25 showing.

“We’re going to have some portable toilets available, we’ve had some wonderful people in the community step-up after the last event to help us out with that and we’re also hoping to get a food truck as well.”

Coward says that they intend to announce ticket prices and movies for the showings later in the week. The tickets will be sold on Eventbrite so they can avoid over-crowding in their parking lot.

Coward did mention that tickets would be purchased on a per-vehicle basis and not a per person basis, with all proceeds for every showing that they do going towards local charities. This week’s ticket donations will see funds donated to the Ronald McDonald House.

Those attending are also encouraged to stay in their vehicles as much as possible, practice social distancing, bring their own snacks and wear a face mask in case you have to leave.

Coward also told EverythingGP that they have purchased a new projector that is brighter and will provide a better picture.

The parking lot for the movies are expected to open around 9:00 p.m. with the movie following shortly after once it is dark enough. An on-sale date for tickets is still yet to be announced.

The group is expected to get a bigger venue in the future so more people can attend, but those plans are still in the works.
