Alberta adds 57 new COVID-19 cases Friday

Active case totals in the Big Lakes County area jumped to five on Friday, as the province added 57 new cases for the July 3 update.

There are now 572 active cases in Alberta, while 7,532 people are considered recovered from COVID-19. No additional deaths were reported on Friday, keeping the number of fatalities attributed to the novel coronavirus at 155 in the province.

In the Peace Region, there are now five active cases in the Big Lakes County, while there is one active case in the City of Grande Prairie, M.D. of Smoky River and Clear Hills County. There remains two active cases in Mackenzie County.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of end of day July 2 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 17 cases (One active, 16 recovered)
  • County of Grande Prairie: Seven cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Greenview: One cases (Recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 72 cases (One active, 61 recovered, ten deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 44 cases (Five active, 34 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: Five cases (All recovered)
  • Northern Sunrise County: Four cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: Six cases (All recovered)
  • Clear Hills County: Ten cases (One active, nine recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: Zero cases
  • Mackenzie County: 37 cases (Two active, 35 recovered)

There were 6,739 tests processed by the provincial lab over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of tests completed to 470,809 in Alberta.

Fourty-two people are in hospital with COVID-19 in Alberta, with nine in ICU. Three people in northern Alberta are hospitalized, while one is in ICU.
