Curling Alberta announces schedule for qualifiers, provincials while Curling Canada puts hold on Olympic qualifying

Jul 10, 2020 | 4:20 PM

Curling Alberta has announced its schedule for qualifiers and provincial championships.

The qualifiers that will take place in the Peace are the Masters from December 11- 13 in Grande Prairie, Men’s from December 18- 20 in Slave Lake, Mixed Doubles January 15-17 in Peace River, Juniors January 22 to 24 in Fairview, Seniors February 5-7 in Sexsmith, U15 February 19-21 in Slave Lake, Mixed February 26-28 in Beaverlodge, and the Club Championship March 19-21 in Hythe.

So far, no provincial championships are set for Peace Region communities, but a host for the Men’s and Women’s has not been announced.

Both are scheduled for January 25-31.

Meanwhile, Curling Canada says the pandemic means its qualifying process for the 2022 Olympics is on hold.

Curling Canada says in a statement that the safety of the curlers is its “prime consideration” and it does not want to pressure them into chasing qualifying points until that can be done safely.

This does not impact the four teams that have already qualified for the Roar of the Rings to be held in Saskatoon in 2021 or the two that have already made the 2022 Canadian Mixed Doubles Trials.
