Pair of landslides temporarily close Peace Region highways

Jul 16, 2020 | 5:15 PM

Repairs are being made on Highway 743 north of Peace River and Highway 64 west of Cleardale following a pair of landslides.

For now, the highways will remain closed for at least 10 days so repairs can be completed.

Traffic is being rerouted on both roads.

Both sides of the Whitemud river on Highway 743 are closed. Motorists on the south side of the river can enter Highway 743 from Highway 986. Those that are located north of the river can detour north on Highway 35, east on Highway 690 and south to Highway 743.

Meanwhile, traffic on Highway 64 is being rerouted in two different directions. Vehicles moving eastbound can use Range Road 123 north to Worsley and south on Highway 726 to Highway 64. Traffic heading westbound will use Highway 726 north to Worsley, to Range Road 123 and south to Highway 64.

Any further updates will be posted on the 511 Alberta website.
