The newest crop report from Alberta Agriculture says 65.2 per cent of the crop in the Peace Region is rated as good to excellent.

That is lower than the June 29 report, where the rating was at 72.1 per cent, but still above the five-year average of 62.4 per cent. Crop development is reported to be behind normal.

The rating province-wide is 80.3 per cent.

The report adds 67.9 per cent of the spring wheat, 67.6 per cent of the oats, 65.8 per cent of the canola, 61.8 per cent of the dry peas, and 56.3 per cent of the barley is rated good to excellent.

The report also says almost all areas of the Peace received at least 80 millimetres of rain, or more than three inches, over the last two weeks. Some areas had up to 150 millimetres, while part had 40 millimetres.

Thirteen per cent of haying is done, behind the five-year average of 38 per cent. Yields are at 1.6 tons per acre, above the 1.3 ton per acre five-year average.

Eighty-seven per cent of the pasture is rated good or excellent.
