Alberta passes 10,000 total cases of COVID-19 Friday

Alberta topped 10,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Friday, as there were no new cases reported in the Grande Prairie area for the end of day July 23.

The province added 111 cases, bringing the number of active cases to 1,341 as of July 23, while 8,567 have recovered. Two more fatalities were reported for July 23, bringing the number of deaths attributed to COVID-19 in Alberta to 178.

With those totals, the province has now seen 10,086 of COVID-19 during the pandemic.

In the Peace Region for Friday’s update, there were no new cases in the Grande Prairie area. Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day July 23 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 28 cases (Nine active, 19 recovered)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 20 cases (10 active, 10 recovered)
  • M.D. of Greenview: Six cases (Five active, one recovered)
  • Birch Hills County: Three cases (Two active, one recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 72 cases (62 recovered, ten deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 47 cases (42 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: Five cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: Six cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: One case (Recovered)
  • Clear Hills County: 24 cases (Nine active, 15 recovered)
  • Northern Sunrise County: Four cases (All recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: Four cases (One active, three recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 107 cases (45 active, 61 recovered, one death)

The number of hospitalizations in Alberta saw a decrease for July 23, as they dropped from 106 to 95, while ICU admissions dropped by two to 19. In the North Zone, 10 people are in hospital with four in an ICU.

A total of 8,735 tests were processed at the provincial lab on Thursday. There have now been 623,442 tests run in Alberta, with 43,477 people from Northern Alberta receiving a test. The number of people tested in the North Zone went up by 354 from the day prior.
