GPREP begins phasing out PPE program, expands business support

Jul 24, 2020 | 11:40 AM

The Grande Prairie Regional Emergency Partnership (GPREP) will begin phasing out the PPE4Biz and the Essential Service Resource Program, while also expanding the Business Ambassador Program.

At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, supply chains were unstable, and access to personal protective equipment (PPE) was limited. GPREP launched the PPE4Biz and the Essential Service Resource Program, which provided PPE such as masks, gloves, sanitizer and other equipment to businesses for a fee, and free of charge to local community organizations.

However, because those products have become more readily available, and fewer groups are going through GPREP to access them, the program is being phased out.

The Business Ambassador Program, which GPREP says has connected over 1650 businesses with supports to understand and meet the Province’s COVID-19 regulations, is being expanded. Businesses in need of support can contact the GPREP Business Ambassadors to get support, by sending an email to business@gprepeoc.com.

Meanwhile, GPREP is continuing with weekly meetings to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic, and the impact it’s having locally, in order to assess and respond to the needs of the community.

“Public health and safety is the priority of GPREP and we are aligned with the provincial recommendation of using masks in public areas when it’s difficult to maintain physical distancing of 2 meters at all times,” said Jennifer Wood, the GPREP Manager, in a release. “We are actively monitoring the region and will make recommendations to local elected officials based on the evolving situation.”

Along with monitoring the state of the COVID-19 pandemic, GPREP is also continuing to operate it’s other programs, including the Community Care Program.
