Active COVID-19 cases drop as Alberta adds 80 new cases

The total number of active cases of COVID-19 in Alberta saw a drop Tuesday as there were 80 new cases confirmed in the province for July 27.

The rise in case numbers comes off of 7,900 tests that were processed on Monday. There are now 1,397 active cases in Alberta, 33 fewer than the day prior, while 112 more people are considered recovered, bringing that total to 8,886.

One more Albertan has died, bringing the number of fatalities attributed to COVID-19 to 187.

Among the new cases reported on Tuesday was one new case in the City of Grande Prairie, while one more case recovered to keep the number of active cases at nine in the city. The MD of Greenview saw one case recover, as it now has four active cases.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day July 27 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 31 cases (Nine active, 22 recovered)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 21 cases (Eight active, 13 recovered)
  • M.D. of Greenview: Six cases (Four active, two recovered)
  • Birch Hills County: Three cases (Two active, one recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 73 cases (One active, 62 recovered, ten deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 47 cases (42 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: Five cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: Seven cases (One active, six recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: One case (Recovered)
  • Clear Hills County: 24 cases (Nine active, 15 recovered)
  • Northern Sunrise County: Four cases (All recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: Four cases (One active, three recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 121 cases (49 active, 71 recovered, one death)

Hospitalizations held firm at 88 for July 27, while ICU admissions now sit at 16. In the North Zone there are eight people in hospital with two of those admitted into intensive care.

There have now been 659,242 tests processed during the pandemic in Alberta. 46,088 people from Northern Alberta have been tested, an increase of 546 from the day prior.
