Alberta adds 133 new cases of COVID-19, three more deaths

Alberta added 133 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, as there was one new case identified in the City of Grande Prairie.

The new case in Grande Prairie comes as there were two more recoveries, dropping the City’s active case total to eight. There was one more recovery in the County of Grande Prairie, leaving seven cases active there.

The M.D. of Spirit River area added two new cases for July 28, while the County of Northern Lights and Mackenzie County each added new cases.

Updated cases totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day July 28 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 32 cases (Eight active, 24 recovered)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 21 cases (Seven active, 14 recovered)
  • M.D. of Greenview: Six cases (Four active, two recovered)
  • Birch Hills County: Three cases (Two active, one recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: Two cases (Both active)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 73 cases (One active, 62 recovered, ten deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 47 cases (42 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: Five cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: Seven cases (One active, six recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: One case (Recovered)
  • Clear Hills County: 24 cases (Six active, 18 recovered)
  • Northern Sunrise County: Four cases (All recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: Five cases (Two active, three recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 133 cases (57 active, 75 recovered, one death)

Wednesday’s case increase in Alberta comes as nearly 9,000 tests were processed on Tuesday. There are now 1,430 active cases in Alberta, while 8,983 people have recovered.

Three more people have died, bringing the number of deaths attributed to COVID-19 in the province to 190.

There are 87 people in hospital, 17 of whom are in ICU. In the North Zone, nine people are hospitalized with COVID-19, with two of those people in ICU.

There have now been 668,226 tests processed in Alberta since March, with 46,591 people from Northern Alberta having been tested, an increase of 503 from the day prior.
