Alberta sees number of active COVID-19 cases fall

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Alberta fell on Friday, to 1,386. The drop comes despite adding 127 new cases across the province.

The number of recovered cases in Alberta has risen to 9,261, an increase of 148 from the previous day.

Included in those recoveries are four from the County of Grande Prairie, and one from the City.

The M.D of Greenview also saw one recovery, however it was offset by the addition of two new cases.

Updated cases totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day July 31 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 33 cases (Eight active, 25 recovered)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 21 cases (Two active, 19 recovered)
  • M.D. of Greenview: Eight cases (Five active, three recovered)
  • Birch Hills County: Two cases (One removed, two recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: Three cases (One active, two active)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 73 cases (One active, 62 recovered, ten deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 47 cases (42 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: Five cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: Seven cases (One active, six recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: Two Cases (One active, one recovered)
  • Clear Hills County: 24 cases (Four active, 20 recovered)
  • Northern Sunrise County: Four cases (All recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: Five cases (One active, four recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 148 cases (58 active, 89 recovered, one death)

There has also been one more death attributed to the novel coronavirus, bringing the number of fatalities in Alberta due to COVID-19 up to 196.

The number of hospitalizations also decreased on Friday, with 86 Albertans in hospital, 17 of whom are in intensive care. However, in the North Zone, the number of hospitalizations increased to 13 people, two of whom are in an ICU.

The new cases come as the Province processed 8,384 COVID-19 tests on Friday. To date, 685,297 tests have been done in Alberta.
