Bandaged Paws picking up the pieces following break-in on Sunday

Bandaged Paws is picking up the pieces after a break-in at its facility.

Grande Prairie RCMP says that sometime between 9:00 p.m. on August 8 and 8:00 a.m. on August 9, an individual attempted to break into the facility through its front door. The glass didn’t shatter fully, so the individual moved over to some other windows and smashed them instead.

Two grey cash boxes that contained $800 were taken.

Between that and the windows that were broken, Bandaged Paws says there was between $2,000 and $2,500 worth of damage to the facility.

Natasha Arsenault with Bandaged Paws says they’re fortunate that things didn’t turn out worse than they already were.

“The fact that they left all the animals alone, we’re really appreciative for. Everybody kind of seemed to be untouched and normal, happy and healthy, we discovered everything on Sunday morning at 8:00.”

Following the break-in, Arseneault put up a post on the organization’s social media accounts, alerting the public of what happened and trying to find any information about who could’ve caused the damage.

Once Arseneault notified the public about what happened, the community stepped up to help the organization out.

“A lot of people and businesses are offering support, sending donations and fixing the damage that was done. Over $9,000 has been donated already to recover the losses that we had and further our security measures.”

Arseneault says RCMP are investigating the break-in, but unfortunately, it might be tough to catch who broke into the facility.

“We don’t have any footage of that (the robbery), we don’t actually have cameras in our facility, which is going to change this week very quickly,” explained Arseneault. “RCMP is still investigating and they responded really quickly and have been great to work with.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Mounties.

All of the proceeds from donations raised are going towards a new security system for the facility, and repairs to the damaged windows.

Arseneault says any extra money will go towards caring for the animals.
