Alberta adds 76 new COVID-19 cases, two new in Grande Prairie

Alberta added 76 new cases of COVID-19 for August 12, with two of those cases being identified in the City of Grande Prairie.

The City also posted two recoveries to keep the active case total at 12. The County of Grande Prairie added one new case and one recovery to keep the active case total at six. The M.D. of Greenview’s lone active case switched to recovered, leaving no active cases there as of the end of day Wednesday

Active cases dropped by eight to 1,036 in Alberta as of August 12 while 10,713 people have recovered, 89.5 per cent of all cases.

There were three more fatalities attributed to COVID-19 on Wednesday, including one more in the Mackenzie County area, bringing the death toll in the province to 220. There have been five fatalities in Mackenzie County, which includes the communities of High Level and La Crete

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day August 12 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 47 cases (12 active, 35 recovered)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 28 cases (Six active, 22 recovered)
  • M.D. of Greenview: Eight cases (Seven recovered, one death)
  • Birch Hills County: Two cases (Both recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: Three cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 73 cases (63 recovered, ten deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 47 cases (One active, 41 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: Five cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: Eight cases (One active, seven recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: Two Cases (Both recovered)
  • Clear Hills County: 25 cases (One active, 24 recovered)
  • Northern Sunrise County: Four cases (All recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: Seven cases (Two active, five recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 212 cases (56 active, 151 recovered, five deaths)

Hospitalizations held at 50 in Alberta, with 12 of those individuals in intensive care. In Northern Alberta, five people are in hospital with one in an ICU.

Over 7,700 tests were processed on Wednesday, bringing the number of tests completed in Alberta to 793,114 on 647,281 people. In the North Zone, 54,533 people have been tested, an increase of 481 from the day prior.
