Bear Creek “Un-Festival” ready to go Saturday night

Aug 15, 2020 | 5:30 AM

The first ever Bear Creek Un-Festival is ready to roll Saturday evening.

The Un-Festival is being used as a substitute for this year’s Bear Creek Folk Festival, which was scheduled to take place on the hill at Muskoseepi Park from August 14-16, but was postponed until next year because of COVID-19.

The event will take place via live stream on YouTube.

Sarah Card, the organizer of the Bear Creek Folk Festival and Un-Festival, says there’s lots for music fans to look forward to.

“We couldn’t let that weekend just go by without kind of raising a glass and at least toasting it and recognizing it.

“It’s going to be a jam packed few hours full of some great archival footage from previous festivals, but as well as a whole bunch of new performances by both artists that have played in the past (and new artists).”

“There are some of our artists who were main stage headlining closers at our festivals who’ve actually come on board to do performances for the Un-Festival.”

Just like folk fests in years past, merchandise will be available at the festival’s website. The merchandise will be available until the end of the live stream..

Along with the performances, the live stream is also going to be used as a way to get people excited for 2021.

“We’re releasing a number of the names that will be playing in 2021,” said Card.

“There were all these artists scheduled to play at this year’s festival in 2020 and because the festival is postponed, we’ve rescheduled them to next year, but a few of them have given us performances for the Un-Festival. So, if you watch, you’ll get a sneak peak at some of the cool artists that will be coming in at 2021 as well.”

Card says she can’t say much about which specific artists are performing during the Un-Festival but recommends that everyone tunes into the festival on-time.

“We are starting things off with a huge bang, with one of our bigger performers right near the beginning. You definitely don’t want to miss any of it and you want to make sure you tune in for 7:00 p.m.”

Before the show starts, the Un-Festival will have a slide show on their YouTube channel which will feature photo’s from year’s past, as they count down to the live show at 7:00 p.m.

The event is free for anyone to watch and Card hopes people are able to enjoy the night of entertainment.

“We’re really looking forward to sharing some great musical moments with the community. We are missing having everyone on the hill this year. We just really want to say thank you to all the people who’ve supported our festival, who’ve attended, who’ve volunteered for it in so different ways.”

“We really wanted to find someway to draw the community together at a time where there’s lots of apartness, so I hope everyone enjoys it.”
