City launching survey and open house to seek feedback on potential Revolution Place upgrades

The City of Grande Prairie is looking for the public’s feedback when it comes to the Revolution Place revitalization plan.

Starting on September 8, the City will launch an online public survey, as well as a random phone survey to get feedback from residents on whether council should proceed with the estimated $55,000,000 plan.

“We really want to be able to help council make a strong decision on how they want to move forward,” explained Catherine Ridgeway, the General Manager at Revolution Place. “So, we are asking people about the types of events and programing that they want to see. We are also looking at, ‘is this the best time to do a renovation?’” And see how the community wants to move forward.”

Renovations to Revolution Place would see the arena increase its capacity to 5,000 seats, as well as add extra washrooms, concessions, suites and a new arena entrance and box office, that would divide access to the arena and Bowes Event Centre.

The online and phone survey each run until September 20.

Following the online and phone survey, an open house will be launched in late September and early October. All Grande Prairie-area residents are invited to attend.

The open house will provide renderings of what the arena could look like if the renovation is approved, and city staff members will listen and take feedback from the public.

“They (the city) want to get a pulse of what the residents are feeling about the project,” said Ridgeway. “We live it everyday and we know what we’d like to see everyday, but we’re hoping that we can get some information from the community on what they want to see the venue looking like.”

The data that’s collected through the open house and surveys will be presented to council during the projects budget deliberations on November 3, 4 and 5.

If approved the City estimates that 175 events will take place at the event each year and it will increase the life expectancy of the arena for the next 30 years.

Project updates will continue to be provided at the City of Grande Prairie website.
