First death reported in Clear Hills County as Alberta adds 426 new cases in 72 hours

Alberta Health announced that it has confirmed 426 new cases of COVID-19 from August 28-30, bringing the total amount of active cases in the province to 1,370.

Two new deaths were reported in the province as a result of COVID-19.

One of the deaths was a man in his 90’s from Clear Hills County and the other was a man in their 80’s in the Edmonton zone.

The City of Grande Prairie added four new cases over the weekend, while eight people recovered. The city now has 20 active cases as of the end of day Sunday.

No new cases were added in the County of Grande Prairie and four people recovered over the weekend, leaving 11 active cases there.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day August 30 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 82 cases (20 active, 60 recovered, two deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 43 cases (11 active, 32 recovered)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 12 cases (Four active, seven recovered, one death)
  • Birch Hills County: Three cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: Three cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 74 cases (One active, 63 recovered, ten deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 49 cases (One active, 43 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: Six cases (one active, five recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 12 cases (One active, 11 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: Six cases (Four active, two recovered)
  • Clear Hills County: 53 cases (25 active, 27 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: Six cases (All recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: 18 cases (Six active, 12 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 296 cases (66 active, 221 recovered, nine deaths)

Hospitalizations across the province remained steady at 44 over the weekend, while ICU admissions grew by one to eight. In the North Zone, nine people are in the hospital and one patient is in the ICU.

Over the last 72 hours, Alberta Health completed 33,649 COVID-19 tests. There have now been 967,083 tests processed on 767,296 Albertans as of August 30. In the North Zone there have been 66,748 people tested, an increase of 2,059 people over the weekend,
