Saddle Hills County ready for the next step in $40 million water line project

Sep 11, 2020 | 12:00 PM

Saddle Hills County says a $40 million water project it has been working on for five years is ready to move ahead.

This would include building a new supply intake on the Peace River and a 36-kilometre long raw water pipeline that run from west of the Dunvegan Bridge to a spot between the Peace River and the Town of Spirit River.

Twenty million dollars for this is coming from the Provincial Government, $16 million from the Federal Government, with Saddle Hills County covering the remaining $4 million.

Saddle Hills County has asked for design proposals and expects it to go to tender in the fall of 2021.

Construction would take two years once the land is obtained. A water diversion license and other licenses and approvals would also be needed first.

Reeve Alvin Hubert says in a news release that this will mean a reliable source of water for residents, industry, and businesses.

“We look forward to proceeding with this exciting project and its associated benefits to the long-term sustainability of the Central Peace Region,” added Hubert in that same release.
