Modified Northern Spirit light show going ahead

Sep 22, 2020 | 4:03 PM

A modified version of the Northern Spirit Christmas light show will go ahead at Evergreen Park this year.

Peace Draft Horse Club President Jody White says some changes have had to be made to comply with Alberta Health Services regulations.

“We have to do our part to minimize crowds, so there will be no hot chocolate booths, there will be no bonfires and there will be no wagons this year. It is strictly a drive-through only. The price has stayed the same, it’s $15 a vehicle, doesn’t matter how many people are in the vehicle.”

White says they will still be helping the Food Bank.

He adds he has been in regular contact with AHS.

“Just making sure we do everything right so that we can provide this for our community still. Our members were all in agreement that with how much has changed in the last six-eight months, it’s going to be pretty important to be able to put this on in order to have that sense of normal for our community.”

White says set-up will start this weekend.

“We have to do our part during set-up to minimize contact with each other and stay in our cohort groups and our family groups during set-up. Once it’s up and running, then away we go.

“It’s tough that we’re not going to be able to get all the volunteers we normally get while it is running.”

White says volunteers will be limited to club members and extended family cohort groups. In past years, groups of bank employees, firefighters and 4-H clubs would be among those who would volunteer.

Northern Spirit will open on November 19. It will run every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday night through December 10. After that, it will be open daily through New Year’s Eve, except for Christmas Day when it will be closed.
