Nice cars, movie part of MS Society fundraiser Thursday night

Sep 24, 2020 | 5:30 AM

The A&W Cruisn’ to End MS fundraiser that will be held tonight will be combined with a movie showing at the Grande Sunset Theatre.

MS Society South Peace Chapter coordinator Carla Holton says this will take the place of the in-person events that have been done in the past.

“It’s incorporating the Thursday night cruise night. You are going to see some nice cars there because some of the cruisers are absolutely going to be in attendance. The movie is going to be out at Evergreen Park. It is Days of Thunder, which is such a great movie because it is so iconic and incorporates cars and that atmosphere.”

She adds a sellout would bring in $6500.

“Hopefully, we can maximize the fund-raising and collect that entire amount to go towards the MS Society.”

Holton says the money raised would be used for numerous things.

“Individual programs and services, educational webinars, research which (it) is so very important to continue on with those research developments in spite of COVID. We want to ensure we’re still funding those because we don’t want to lose the momentum.”

Holton adds they want to ensure quality of life for people living with MS, plus fund research to make life easier and, ultimately, to find a cure.

Evergreen Park has agreed to waive any charge for fundraisers like this for the rest of 2020. Holton calls this “tremendous.”

“We have such a generous community here in Grande Prairie. Those types of things, they’re just wonderful, but I’m never surprised because we have (so much) support from our entire community and area.”

Showtime is 8 p.m. Tickets are available here.
