COVID-19 case identified at Riverstone Public School

Oct 5, 2020 | 10:19 AM

Alberta Health Services has confirmed a case of COVID-19 in an individual from Riverstone Public School. AHS advised the Grande Prairie Public School Division of the infection on Sunday, October 4, and the GPPSD has sent letters to the families of students who attend the school.

Riverstone Public School remains open for in-person learning for students who have not been identified as a close contact. Additional caretaking services have been deployed to help manage cleaning efforts around the school.

The school and areas know to be used by the individual have been thoroughly cleaned and sanitized.

The families who’s children were in close contact with the infected individual have been contacted by AHS, and advised to get tested and stay home until the results of the tests came back.

The school division will provide those students with teaching supports during their quarantine periods.

The confirmed case is the second to be known from an individual at Riverstone Public School, with the first being announced back on September 15.

The GPPSD reminds parents and guardians to monitor their children for signs or symptoms of the novel coronavirus, and to follow the Alberta Health checklist daily. Those who do have symptoms are asked to complete the online Alberta Health Services COVID-19 self-assessment, or to call Health Link at 811.
