Six new COVID-19 cases reported in City of Grande Prairie

The City of Grande Prairie added six new cases of COVID-19 for Thursday, October 15, while the province saw 332 new cases.

There was also one recovery recorded for Thursday in the City, meaning there are now 49 active cases in Grande Prairie as of October 15. There was one new case recorded in the County of Grande Prairie, where there are now six active cases.

Elsewhere in the Peace Region, there were three new cases identified in the Spirit River area. There are now seven active cases there.

Updated case numbers among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day October 15 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 159 cases (49 active, 108 recovered, two deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 68 cases (six active, 62 recovered)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 17 cases (one active, 15 recovered, one death)
  • Birch Hills County: Five cases (two active, three recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 18 cases (seven active, 11 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: Three cases (one active, two recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 75 cases (one active, 64 recovered, ten deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 52 cases (five active, 42 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 18 cases (17 recovered, one death)
  • M.D. of Peace: 28 cases (one active, 27 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 16 cases (all recovered)
  • Clear Hills County: 93 cases (three active, 89 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: Nine cases (all recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: 58 cases (two active, 56 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 414 cases (six active, 395 recovered, 13 deaths)

Thursday’s new cases come after just over 14,000 tests were processed, creating a test positivity rate of 2.24 per cent. A total of 113,383 people have been tested in the North Zone, an increase of 584 from the day prior.

Alberta’s chief medical officer of health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, says her department is continuing to closely monitor the rise in hospitalizations in the Edmonton and Calgary Zone due to outbreaks at health-care facilities there. Of Alberta’s 117 hospitalizations, 103 are in both Edmonton and Calgary, with 11 people in an ICU.

Outbreaks have been declared at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary, the Misericordia and University fo Alberta Hospitals in Edmonton, and the Leduc Community Hospital.

Hospitalizations remain low in the North Zone, with five people currently in hospital with COVID-19. One person is in intensive care.

There are now 2,836 active cases in Alberta, 145 of which are in northern Alberta, and 18,651 cases are considered recovered. No new deaths were reported from COVID-19 in Alberta, keeping that total at 288.
