Sixteen new COVID-19 cases in City of Grande Prairie over weekend, 16 more recoveries

Active cases of COVID-19 in the City of Grande Prairie are holding at 49 as of the end of day Sunday, as the province added 898 new cases between Friday and Sunday.

There were 16 new cases identified in the City, while there were sixteen more recoveries to keep the active case count at 49.

Elsewhere, there were four new cases identified in the County of Grande Prairie, where there are now seven active cases. There were also three new cases reported in the Spirit River area, where there are now nine active cases.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day October 18 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 175 cases (49 active, 124 recovered, two deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 72 cases (seven active, 65 recovered)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 17 cases (one active, 15 recovered, one death)
  • Birch Hills County: Five cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 21 cases (nine active, 12 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: Three cases (one active, two recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 75 cases (one active, 64 recovered, ten deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 52 cases (five active, 42 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 19 cases (one active, 17 recovered, one death)
  • M.D. of Peace: 28 cases (one active, 27 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 16 cases (all recovered)
  • Clear Hills County: 94 cases (four active, 89 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: Nine cases (all recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: 58 cases (two active, 56 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 413 cases (six active, 394 recovered, 13 deaths)

Cases of COVID-19 increased by 311 on Friday, 231 on Saturday and 356 on Sunday in Alberta. Those increases come as there were a total of 42,155 tests processed at the provincial lab, a positivity rate of 2.13 per cent.

Active cases now sit at 3,138 in the province to go along with 19,243 recoveries. Four more deaths were attributed to COVID-19 over the weekend, bringing the death toll to 292.

Hospitalizations remain low in the North Zone, with four people in hospital, two of whom are in an ICU. A total of 117 Albertans are in hospital with COVID-19, mostly in Edmonton and Calgary with 18 of those people admitted into intensive care.

A total of 115,444 people from the North Zone have been tested as of Sunday, an increase of 2,061 over the weekend.
